Fiber Arts at the MAG and the Central Library

For those who work in or just love looking at fiber arts the Memorial Art Gallery and the Central Library is the place you need to be. Fiberart International 2010 is now on exhibit at the Memorial Art Gallery May 1–July 3, 2011 in the Grand Gallery. Fiberart International occurs every three years showing traditional and non-traditional works by contemporary artists. Fiber artists from around the world submit their best recent work to Fiberart International, a juried exhibition organized by the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh. In 2011, MAG will be one of only three tour stops for the prestigious show, which brings together work rooted in ancient techniques and materials, non-traditional textiles made possible by technological advances, and art made from such unexpected materials as cable ties and X-ray film. Wednesday May 18, 2011 is International Museum Day and on this day The Gallery will offer free admission all day in observance of International Museum Day. If you work in the fiber arts and need books and ideas, come to the Central Library’s Arts Division. We have a large collection of fiber arts books covering everything from weaving and spinning to knitting to making wearable fiber creations. You can also observe the giant needle knitting creation here in the Arts Division. You can find these books on the 2nd floor in the Arts Division.
